Situated in the southwest portion of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, the suburban community of Blue Quill, as well as the adjoining Blue Quill Estates district, is named in behalf of a great chief of the Saddle Lake Band, Chief Blue Quill.
A portion of Saddleback Road, east of 115 Street, and a utility passageway just west of 115 Street, serves as the northern boundary of the Blue Quill neighbourhood. The community is bordered to the south by 23 Avenue, 111 Street on the east, and 119 Avenue to the west. Saddleback Road runs through Blue Quill, and the Blackmud Creek Ravine rests at the southwest corner of the Blue Quill district.
While a small percentage of the residential properties in the area were constructed before 1970 or after 1990, the majority (62.9%) of the homes were built in the 1970’s, with 25.8% constructed in the 1980’s (2001 federal census). About 58% of these dwellings are low-rise apartments, with 27% being single-family homes (2005 municipal census). Townhouses and duplex housing comprise the remainder. In accordance with the 2005 municipal census, 62% are rental property, while 38% are lived in by the owners.
