Bonnie Doon Real Estate
Bonnie Doon, a neighbourhood located in the southern part of central Edmonton in Alberta, Canada, serves as the core of the Franco-Albertan culture and is home to the University of Alberta’s Faculte Saint-Jean. The University is the only french university west of the province of Manitoba, and is located on Rue Marie-Anne Gaboury. This university dates back to the first decade of the 1900’s, when it served as a Catholic school for boys.
Originally a part of the City of Strathcona, the western portion of the Bonnie Doon neighbourhood was integrated as a part of Edmonton in 1912 when Edmonton and Strathcona were merged. Edmonton soon acquired the remaining land in the neighbourhood in 1913, thus attaining the Bonnie Doon neighbourhood as a whole. The North Saskatchewan River and Mill Creek Ravine bind this neighbourhood to the north to the west. Whyte Avenue borders the south, with 83 Street to the east.
The first major shopping mall in Edmonton, Bonnie Doon Shopping Centre, is also located in this neighbourhood. The mall, constructed around 1960, was originally an exposed shopping centre and was enclosed in 1967. The Bonnie Doon Shopping Centre consists of approximately 100 stores all located on one floor.
The school district in the neighbourhood is comprised of Rutherford Elementary School, Ecole Maurice-Lavallee, and Ecole Gabrielle-Roy.
