To the west and south of Brookside is Whitemud Drive. Directly north is the North Saskatchewan River Valley and to the east is Whitemud Creek.

The 2001 federal census reports that Brookside was developed over the span of 3 decades. In 1960’s, 50.4% of homes were built. In the 1970’s 40.4% (or 2 out of 5) were completed with the final phase finished in the 1980’s.

The majority (83% or 4 out of every 5) of dwellings in the Brookside community are single family homes. Row houses are at a rate of 10% (or 1 in 10), and rented low rise (maximum of 4 stories) apartments make up a small 6% of the housing community. As reported by the 2005 municipal census.
