Forest Heights in south east Edmonton, Alberta, Canada was created prior to the end of World War II. On its southern border, 98th Avenue leads to the James MacDonald Bridge which funnels into the Government Centre area of downtown and the Rossdale neighbourhood.
That same avenue also leads to the Low Level Bridge which gives access to the downtown core. Wayne Gretzky Drive, along the eastern boundary crosses the North Saskatchewan River and provides access to Rexall Place, Commonwealth Stadium, Edmonton Northlands and Concordia University. Capilano Mall is just east of Forest Heights via 98th Avenue.
Only 6% of the residences of Forest Heights were built prior to the ending of World War II. After the war’s end and up until 1960 over 51% of residential properties were constructed. The 1960s saw just over 24% of homes built, and the 1970s accounted for just over 10%. Single family homes make up roughly 75% of the residential inventory. Apartments and apartment style condos in low rise buildings of less than five stories make up 12%. Duplexes account for 11%. There are a few residences classified as “other.” Just over 60% of the housing inventory is owner occupied.
