Nestled within the Bonnie Doon area of south east Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, Idylwylde had its beginnings shortly after the end of World War II. More than half of the residences, over 56% were built between the end of that war and 1960. Another 23% of the homes were constructed between 1961 and 1980. After a bit of a lull in construction, an additional 11% of the homes were added in the late 1990s. The area is bordered by Whyte Avenue on the south, 90th Avenue on the north, 75th Street on the east and 83rd Street on the west.
Just over half of the properties, some 56%, are single family homes, followed by apartments and apartment style condos at 39%. Most of the apartments are in low rise buildings with less than five stories. Duplexes make up the remaining 4%. Just over half of the properties are owner occupied.
Two schools service the area, the public Idylwylde Elementary School and L’Academie Vimy Ridge Academy, a private school. Residents have access to the Edmonton Public Library’s Idylwylde branch that is located in the adjacent Bonny Doon neighbourhood.
