Kameyosek means “the beautiful” in the language of the Cree. The neighbourhood that bears that complimentary name is located in the Mill Woods area of south Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. It is part of the Lakewood community, bordered on the east by 66th Street, the west by Mill Woods Road, the north by 34th Avenue and the south by 28th Avenue. Over two thirds or 67% of the neighbourhood was built in the 1970s with the remainder during the 1980s. Row houses make up half of the residential properties, followed by single family homes at 32%. Apartments, both in low and high rise buildings make up 16% of the inventory and duplexes the remaining 1%. A little over half of the residential inventory is owner occupied. It is a fairly mobile neighbourhood. The public Kameyosek Community School serves the area as well as the MacEwan College, Mill Woods Campus in the south west corner of the neighbourhood. Residents have easy access to shopping at Mill Woods Town Centre and to the Mill Woods Recreation Centre. The Grey Nuns Community Hospital and the Edmonton Police Service’s south East Division Station are in neighbouring Tawa.
