Kilkenny is located in north east Edmonton, Alberta, Canada and its name is of Irish origin. It is home to Londonderry Mall, a major shopping centre in the south part of the neighbourhood on 66th Street. Other malls in the area include North Town Centre and its next door neighbour Northgate Centre to the south west. Kilkenny is also home to the Londonderry Fitness and Leisure Centre and Londonderry Athletic Grounds.
The northern boundary is 153rd Avenue, the southern is 144th Avenue and the east is bordered by 66th Street. The western edge is 82nd Street.
Most of the area’s development was in the 1960s and 1970s. Half of the homes were built between 1961 and 1970. An additional 23% were built in the following decade. The remaining 22% were built in the 1980s with the area considered complete in 1990.
The single family home is the most common type of residence, making up 60% of homes. 30% of homes are apartments in low rise buildings with less than five stories with the remaining homes being row houses. Over 62% of homes are occupied by their owners.
There are six schools in the area, five of the Edmonton Public School System and one Catholic.
