Kirkness Real Estate
James Kirkness came to the Edmonton area in 1866 and was an employee of the newly formed Hudson’s Bay Company. Kirkness, in north east Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, bears his name. The Canadian National Railway right of way makes up the western boundary and the Victoria Trail frames the east. The south is bordered by 144th Avenue and the north by 153rd Avenue. Manning Drive, to the west of the railway right of way gives access to north eastern Edmonton.
Roughly 12% of the homes were built in the 1970s, followed by the 1980s when 70% of the housing inventory was constructed. An additional 15% were added in the 1990s. The remaining construction occurred after 2000.
The single family home is the most common type, accounting for 55% of the homes. 28% are apartments in low rise buildings with less than five stories. Less than 10% are duplexes and 8% are row houses. Nearly 63% of homes are owner occupied. The population is somewhat mobile, with only 43% of occupants being at the same address for five years or more.
Kirkness Park, in the centre of the neighbourhood provides open green space. Schools in the area include an Edmonton Public School and a Kids are Special Daycare & After School private facility. Clareview Village Shopping Centre is to the south east.
