Lansdowne is not so much a residential community as it is a neighborhood overlooking Whitemud Creek Ravine in south west Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
The City of Edmonton website describes Lansdowne with "a quiet pastoral atmosphere [with] the opportunity to view the rural, agricultural setting of the University of Alberta Farm..."
Lansdowne is a short driving distance to the Snow Valley Ski Hill and within walking distance to Michener Park, which is a social hub for students attending the University of Alberta.
Average occupancy rates are 2.3 persons per household. 1 in 4 homes support 4 or 5 people and 2 out of 3 homes listed as having 1 or 2 occupants.
The 2001 federal census indicates that this neighborhood was built through the 1960’s and into the 1970’s with the most built homes (64%) being single family residences. Low rise apartments are at 25% and high rise apartments at 10% which completes the community. Most of the single family homes are owner occupied as well as most of the apartments are currently rented.
The majority of homes in the vicinity of Whitemud Creek Ravine are priced higher than the homes near Whitemud Drive.
According to a recent survey, Lansdowne is an ethncially diverse community, with multiple ethnic origins. The survey respondents included Canadians (6.9%), English (3.1%), Chinese (2.9%), German (2.9%), Ukranian (1.4%), Polish (1.2%), East Indian (1.2%) and Scottish (1.0%).
