Oliver Real Estate
Oliver, a residential neighbourhood located in the City of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, is just west of the downtown core. It was named after an Edmonton resident, Frank Oliver, and is one of the oldest and densest neighborhoods in Edmonton. The adjoining neighbourhoods and areas include Westmount, Westmount (Groat Estates), and the North Saskatchewan River to the west, Central McDougall, the Downtown Core, and the North Saskatchewan River to the east, Queen Mary Park to the north, and the North Saskatchewan River again to the south.
Also known as Grandin, the southeast portion of Oliver houses both Grandin School and Grandin LRT Station. In the river valley just below the neighbourhood is the Victoria Golf Course, Victoria Park, and the Royal Glenora Club. On the west side of Oliver is the Victoria Promenade, a part of Edmonton’s Heritage Trail. Located on the south side of the neighbourhood are the University of Alberta and Old Strathcona. The north side of the neighbourhood was recently redeveloped, and at one time was a Canadian National Railway right of way and rail yard. In this section of Oliver are apartment buildings, Oliver Square, and the Oliver Square West strip shopping centres. Parking for the MacEwan College campus is also located on the north side of the neighbourhood.
The neighbourhood of Oliver has a highly mobile population, with the majority of housing being rented apartments in high-rise buildings and condominiums. Roughly 2/3 of the area residences are this style of dwelling. The remaining housing consists mainly of low-rise apartments and condominiums, with a small number of single-family dwellings, duplexes, and row houses.
