Ottewell Real Estate
Named for the Ottewell family, one of the original settlers in the area, this large residential area in south east Edmonton, Alberta, Canada got its start shortly after the end of World War II. Over 86% of the homes were built within the first fifteen years after the war and the neighbourhood was considered complete by 1980. Golden Homes was one of the major builders in the area. Many of the homes brought on the market in the 1960s are today worth roughly twenty times their original asking price.
The single family home is the most prevalent residential style, accounting for 79% of the housing inventory. Apartments in low rise buildings of less than five stories account for 12% while duplexes make up 4%. The remaining 5% are categorized as collective residences. Roughly 75% of the homes are owner occupied.
The western boundary is 75th Street, the eastern 50th Street and the south is framed by 90th Avenue. Terrace Road and 98th Avenue make up the northern border. Within those boundaries are the Braemer Public School, the Clara Tyner Elementary and the Ottewell Junior High School. Edmonton Catholic Schools and St. Brendan Catholic Elementary School are also represented. The private Suzuki Charter School also services the area.
Residents have access to Capilano Mall in the north east part of Ottewell, which also holds a branch of the Edmonton Public Library. On the southern end of the area is Ottewell Plaza, a strip mall that includes a large grocery store. There are several places of worship in the neighbourhood.
