Rio Terrace Real Estate
Rio Terrace is part of three neighbourhoods that share a triangularly shaped area in southwest Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Though distinct sections, the neighbourhoods share a community centre and area amenities. The Saskatchewan River is the boundary to the south east, the Patricia Ravine to the south west and Whitemud Drive frames the north. The Rio Terrace area is between 149th Street and 156th Street.
Rio Terrace is the oldest neighbourhood of the three. Construction began in the 1950s with the majority of development, about 70%, occurring in the 1960s. All homes are single family dwellings and virtually all are occupied by their land owners.
Access to town is via two bridges, one at 156th Street, the second at 159th Street. Both of these spans cross Whitemud Drive and give the area’s residents quick access to West Edmonton Mall, Whyte Avenue and the University of Alberta. For convenient local shopping at two smaller malls, residents can use the Pacific Heights Shopping Centre and the Meadowlark Park Centre.
There are three schools in the area, the Rio Terrace Elementary and the Pacific Heights Elementary, both part of the Edmonton Public School System and the Catholic Our Lady of Victories Elementary. Jasper Place High School, a public facility and St. Francis Xavier High School, a Catholic offering are nearby. Edmonton Public Transit provides easy access to both.
