A river valley neighbourhood in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, Riverdale is located immediately east of the downtown core. It is bounded on both the south and east by the North Saskatchewan River. Grierson Hill Road runs along Riverdale’s boundary with the downtown core. Riverdale’s neighbour just across the river to the south is Cloverdale. Boyle Street lies to the north, and Rossdale, another river valley neighbourhood, shares the approach to the Low Level Bridge with Riverdale.
This river valley neighborhood was popular with early Edmonton residents. A lumber mill and brickyard were soon constructed in the area. Coal was mined from the cliffs in the valley to supply fuel.
About 25% of the residences were constructed before 1946. Many of the remaining homes were built before the mid 1980’s. Only about 1 in 10 of the residences date after 1985.
Riverdale School is the only school in the neighbourhood. There are a number of parks located in Riverdale. These include Allan Stein Park, Dawson Park, Louise McKinney Riverfront Park, and Louis McKinney Park.
