Summerlea Real Estate
The Summerlea neighborhood in Alberta’s west section is best known for being the location of the West Edmonton Mall, North America’s largest enclosed shopping center. The mall comprises almost the entire southern portion of Summerlea. The neighborhood’s boundaries are 95 Avenue on the north end, 87 Avenue on the south end, 170 Street to the east and 178 Street to the west. Neighborhoods near Summerlea include Terra Losa directly north, Glenwood at the northeast, Meadowlark Park at the east end, Elmwood at the southeast, Thorncliff directly south, Aldergrove at southwest, La Perle to the northwest and Belmead at the west.
Many ethnic backgrounds are represented among Summerlea’s inhabitants. No single nationality accounts for more than ten percent of the area’s population, according to the census conducted in 2001. Approximately two-thirds of the neighborhood’s residents reported that they are of multiple ethnicities.
As the backdrop for the West Edmonton Mall, Summerlea’s crime statistics reflect acts that might be associated with the shopping area. Offenses involving property, such as breaking-and-entering, auto theft and shoplifting, increased threefold between 2000 and 2003. However, these crimes subsided in 2004 and actually decreased in 2005.
