Like West Jasper Place, West Meadowlark Park became affiliated with the city of Edmonton when Edmonton and Jasper Place amalgamated in 1964. West Meadowlark Park is located just to the east of the West Edmonton Mall. The vast majority of the neighborhood’s residences were constructed between the post-World War II years and 1980. In fact, approximately 66 percent of the dwellings were built in the years between 1960 and 1969.
Single-family houses are the most prevalent type of residence, accounting for 40 percent of West Meadowlark’s total number of homes. Other residence styles include apartments, encompassing approximately 30 percent of housing stock, and row houses, which account for some 18 percent of the home supply. The area enjoys a high owner-occupancy rate of seven of every ten homes. Statistics from the 2001 census indicate that the neighborhood is composed mostly of smaller families, with 2.4 people per capita.
West Meadowlark Place is the home of Misericordia Community Hospital, situated at the neighborhood’s southwest end. Also in the area are the Jasper Place Fitness and Leisure Centre, as well as Johnny Bright Sports Park.
